Recently, numerous foreign chain businesses have made their way into Canada for the first time. In downtown Toronto, Chick-Fil-A and Eataly have been extremely successful, evident through their constant line ups around the block. Naturally, one thing is clear: Torontonaians love waiting in line for the newest food trend. The latest addition to this list is Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro’s vending machines. That’s right, vending machines that sell freshly baked slices of cake, shipped from Carlo’s Bakery in New Jersey! The first of its kind in Canada, Carlo’s Bake Shop is located in three different buildings downtown: the Richmond-Adelaide

Netflix’s Atypical – A Review

With the weather turning frigid and the days shortening as we plunge into a dark and gloomy November, the thought of cozying up inside and enjoying some quality Netflix time is becoming increasingly more appealing. And what better way to ignore all those looming project deadlines than with Netflix’s Atypical? The third season of this unique show was just released, and with Netflix’s disappointing track record of cancelling its original shows after the first or second season, it’s nothing short of a miracle.  Atypical centres around the life of Sam Gardner, a teenager on the autism spectrum who wishes to

DMG on Horror and Empowerment

Although Halloween has long since passed, I still find myself consumed with haunting thoughts. This is due greatly to the Writing for Text-Based Horror Games workshop I attended acouple weeks ago. Hosted by Dames Making Games (DMG) on October 24th and co-presented by Kaitlin Tremblay, the lead narrative designer of Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs: Legion, and speculative fiction author/games critic, Natalie Zed, it was an incredibly chilling and educational night. If you aren’t familiar with them yet, DMG is a not-for-profit video game arts organization, dedicated to creating spaces for marginalized creators interested/working in the games industry. They offer lessons on programming and design, provide

EarthGang: Creating More Than Music

EarthGang is an upcoming force in the hip-hop world. Made up of rappers, Johnny Venus and WowGr8, the duo from Atlanta has one of the most unique sounds in the game right now. Beaming with creativity, EarthGang really puts heart and soul into their music, and it shows. Besides the out-of-this-world sound and existential lyrics, what really sets EarthGang apart from the rest is how they create musical experiences for their listeners. To them, music isn’t something you throw on in the background while you’re studying or making dinner. It’s something that you feel, and something that you invest yourself

All Hail King Timothée – A Review of The King

The film that spawned a meltdown amongst the Timothée Chalamet because of his bowl cut finally come out on Netflix. I was intrigued and decided to see what this film was about. While it is available on Netflix, I thought I should give it a fair chance and see it on the big screen at Tiff Bell Lightbox. David Michod is the director and writer of the film. Timothée Chalamet plays the lead role as King Henry V at the start of his reign. Joel Edgerton played his trusty right-hand man, Falstaff, who has an equally interesting bowl cut. There’s

Review of Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is everything you’d expect from the first Marvel film with a lead female character: badass. Watching the origin story of one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel Universe made me even more stoked for Avengers: Endgame. That being said, I agree with the current rating on IMDB, 7.1 out of 10. Although the characters and actions scenes are captivating, the climax is basic and the humour cliché. Let me just state that my initial doubt in Brie Larson playing Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel was quickly shattered. Never seeing her play this type of role before, I

“What’s the point of art if no one sees it?” – A Review of Velvet Buzzsaw

Ghosts, demons, clowns, and serial killers have been the staples of horror movies. It’s the basic horror movie formula that has been perfected and ruined many times. They feed in our physical fears. However, as the genre evolves, more filmmakers are looking at psychological horror, which messes with our minds and finds new horrors that are hidden in our everyday lives. Think of Get Out, Hereditary, Babadook, or The Haunting of Hill House. The new sub-genre of horror is becoming increasingly popular and the newest addition to the collection is Velvet Buzzsaw. Directed by Dan Gilroy, the Netflix film stars

New In The Vegan World

So, I’m vegan. I have been for over 3 years actually! And it’s a huge part of my life. But it can also be sometimes problematic in my life too. It is sometimes hard to find vegan options when I’m out at restaurants with my friends or family who aren’t vegan. Or when I’m shopping and so many brands aren’t vegan because they test on animals. There’s a lot of non vegan things in the world. The good news is, this year so far has been MONUMENTAL in terms of the number of new vegan products. There have been huge
