Vision Boarding Your 2023
January 24, 2023
A new year has begun and what better way to kick start it then to indulge in some form of art therapy! Vision boarding is an activity that I have recently gotten into. I have known about it for quite a while, but last year is when I decided to go for it and try it out for myself. Vision boarding is essentially a collage that you put together to plan out and visualize how you want particular areas of your life to look for you. You don’t necessarily have to create your vision board for a one-year period; the timeframe is dependent on the timeline of your goals that you would like to set out for yourself and your life. But I personally like to create mine for the upcoming year.
There are two ways in which you can create vision boards to lay out your 2023 year. The first way is through digital vision boarding. Technology plays a major role in our everyday lives and creating your vision board digitally is the ideal option for those who find themselves using a lot of screen time throughout the day. Setting your created vision board as your screensaver, whether it’s on your phone or on your computer, I believe aids in subconsciously working closer to the goals/wants you have laid out in this digital manifestation. Every time you unlock your phone screen or open your computer, seeing the vision board you have created is just a friendly reminder to keep working towards what you are hoping to achieve. There are many tools and websites that you can use to create your digital vision board. For example, Photoshop is a software that can be used if you want to be super detailed, but if you are looking for a free alternative Canva is the perfect website. I used Canva to create my 2022 and 2023 digital vision board and collected images I wanted to use from Tumblr which I tend to find a lot of inspiration from. I also used Pinterest which is another platform that can be used to obtain images and also can be used as a source for inspiration.
The second way you can create your vision board is simply by doing it physically. This option is perfect for those who enjoy arts and crafts. There is an array of materials that can be used to craft your vision board. Ideally you can use posters or cork boards as your base. For the actual content of your board you can cut out images from magazines or find them online and print and cut them out. You can use materials such as paint, washi tape, markers or any other art supplies that you feel would be fitting to create your board. You can hang your completed vision board ideally anywhere in a space where you feel you will come in contact with it the most. For example, placing it on the wall right in front of your bed may be a perfect spot because it will be one of the first things you look at when you wake up.
So, whether you create your vision board digitally or physically, both options can be beneficial to plan out your 2023 year. All in all, I do think the key takeaway from vision boarding is intention and creating it with purpose. It’s easy to put fancy quotes and aesthetically pleasing photos together in a collage, but the action you put behind those quotes and photos are more meaningful and can be more impactful in the end. So, I always try to keep in mind that in order to get closer to my dreams, goals, aspirations and wants, I have to put in the work to get there.
