All About Matcha! Amausaan Uji Matcha

Matcha? Yes please! I recently discovered this hidden Japanese Uji matcha dessert place located near Chinatown of Downtown Toronto. Amausaan specializes in their limited quantity, daily freshly made matcha desserts and drinks using high-quality uji matcha. It’s like a matcha heaven with so many choices of desserts and beverages, everything from cakes to drinks to ice cream.

  • Shiratama Sundae                  $7.25                       | Rating  ★★★★★
  • Matcha Milie Crepe Cake      $8.70                       | Rating  ★★★★☆
  • Matcha Fading Cheesecake  $8.25                       | Rating  ★★★☆☆

Out of all 3 of their popular matcha desserts, my personal favourite is the Shiratama Sundae. It’s a super neat bowl of rich and creamy matcha milk swirl paired with red bean and 3 chewy shiratama (mochi like rice balls). It also has a bed of waffle cone bites layered at the bottom of the sundae adding a great crunch and texture to the sundae.

The matcha millie crepe cake is definitely one of their most popular menu item! The cake was beautifully layered, sooooo light and soft, and dusted with even more matcha powder on top. The balance of matcha flavour was perfect, because it kept some of the bitterness from the natural uji matcha that I loved.

Lastly, we also tried out this gorgeous fading matcha cheesecake. This cheesecake was honestly so pretty that I didn’t want to cut into it. Compare to the softness from millie crepe cake, you can taste more of a coarser and sweeter side of matcha. Even though the gradient of 4 different matcha intensities was subtle and creamy with a bed of Oreo cookie at the bottom, it got a little too sweet for me at the end.

If you love matcha as much as I do~ definitely grab a friend on a matcha date and check out this place!
