The Ever-Growing Film Industry in Toronto

Posted by FCAD IT on  February 28, 2021
As a media student here at Ryerson, I have always been interested to hear when there are new films shooting in and around Toronto. It is always exciting to hear when a big film or TV series has come to our city to film, fueling the industry and providing opportunity for the people of Toronto. I can recall a night in my first year at Ryerson, going out with some friends and walking down Yonge Street looking for a place to eat when all of a sudden we had been transported back in time. We looked around us and the street

Quick & Easy Air Fryer Snacks

Posted by FCAD IT on  February 26, 2021
For starters, do not let this title mislead you. Although these recipes are catered towards making snacks in an air fryer, these are definitely doable in a toaster oven or regular oven. I have made these snacks to munch on both during and in between classes. They are so easy to make, they only take a few minutes, and they never disappoint. Before getting into things, I would like to mention that all air fryers (just like ovens) work slightly differently in terms of heat and time so the cooking times might need to be moderated based on your appliance. First up,

4 Genres of Music That Help With Studying

Posted by FCAD IT on  February 24, 2021
Midterm season has arrived and I know how difficult studying can get, especially when we are stuck at home where there are so many distractions around us. Having said this, I am here to suggest four different genres that you can listen to while studying. Now, there is no scientific research that proves that genres like classical music or lo-fi music help improve studying skills but, after doing some research there are a lot of people who have seemed to study better with these genres. It could be a placebo type of situation but nonetheless, these people including myself have found

Why You Should Give Wandavision a Chance

Posted by FCAD IT on  February 22, 2021
A spoiler-free review on why you shouldn’t touch that dial! After a year and a half long hiatus due to COVID-19, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is back in crime-fighting and cape-wearing action. Wandavision, the first of many shows released on streaming for Disney+, is a weekly drama/mystery/horror wrapped in the aesthetics of different eras of sitcoms. Oh, and they’re superheroes, did I mention that? At first Wandavision might seem like it’s biting off much more than it can chew, and I think the heavy marketing push prior to it’s debut didn’t exactly capture it’s appeal. At the time of this
So after digging up my old Nintendo console during quarantine, I was introduced to the insane world of “speed-running”, which is basically when pro-video game players finish a video game as quickly as they can. These “speedrunners” use out-of-the-box tricks and under -the-radar glitches to win the entire game in record speed. Here are my favourites so far: 1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe by AeonFrodo There is something so incredibly calming about watching someone else play a racing game at top speed. In this speed run, the runner goes through every track, cutting through bushes, jumping over roads and speeding
The 2020-2021 NHL season may have only just begun, but it has been full of surprise. The start to the season is always when players are put under the microscope, especially if they don’t start off very hot. There have been more than a handful of players who have not performed up to their expectations early on this season but below are 4 of the most noteworthy players who need to start improving.  Igor Shestyorkin There were a lot of expectations for the New York Rangers rookie goaltender ahead of his first full season in the NHL. With Hendrik Lundqvist out of
In my last article “How to Be a Better Morning Person” I mention the importance of starting your day with breakfast. It’s referred to as the most important meal of the day for a reason! Break that overnight fast by fueling your body with good foods that will keep you energized for the rest of the day.  Here are 5 breakfast options that I find are not only quick to make before that morning lecture starts, but also won’t cost you too much to prepare.  1. For those who plan on starting their own channel or you just want to see how a YouTuber does what they do best, I’ve got something for you 😀  I have contacted one of our very own talented bloggers, Brenessa Roach, and she has kindly agreed to answer a few questions for me. So sit tight, grab yourself a drink or a snack, and read till the end for some advice on starting your own channel 🙂 1. Why did you decide to start making Youtube videos? I have been watching YouTube since around 2006 and I would watch mainly
Dungeons and Dragons, and roleplaying on a larger level, is starting to make waves. It’s always been known for its unfortunate reputation as this incredibly nerdy, awkward thing that people do in their basements, never seeing the light of day. But as times change and as it skyrockets in popularity, it’s slowly becoming the new frontier for storytelling today. Also it’s just really fun.For the uninitiated, Dungeons and Dragons (or D&D) is a tabletop, roleplaying game where players act as characters they’ve created. They are then thrust into a story constructed by a game master (GM), who guides them through
Although it meant waiting in a two-hour lineup, the annual Bath and Body Works Candle Day weekend sale was one I simply couldn’t miss.  Just in time for Christmas, Candle Day was the perfect one-stop gift shop for friends and fam.  Intentionally selecting candles for my loved ones with fragrances that reminded me of them, added that personal touch I aim for when gifting, and with the modest price point of $10.95 per luxurious 3-wick candle, you know I had to add to my collection.  Today’s blog will be a scent diary through my top five favourite candles from the

Grown Down a Little

When we’re young, we all dream about growing up. We wear our dad’s button-ups, and our mum’s heels, even though both are bigger than our entire being. But we play, and we dream about what it would be like to fit in either one, have our own house, and become a doctor, or ballerina, or any of the other thousand things we wanted to be when we grow up. So when exactly did we lose that spark, and the reality of practicality took it away? We hit 18, and we graduate high school, and we’re pushed to make a choice that

Positive Pandemic Moments

Posted by FCAD IT on  February 13, 2021
We are officially one month into 2021. And as we were entering the new year, I wanted to reflect on some of the positive things to have come out of the past year with the COVID-19 pandemic changing our everyday lives. It has certainly been an adventure to watch the way the world has changed over the course of the virus. From work to school to our social lives, I’m not sure there’s a single person who has been completely unaffected by the new climate of our society. In my last blog post I talked about some of the films

The Most Anticipated 2021 Netflix Original Films

Posted by FCAD IT on  February 12, 2021
2020 was a difficult year for theatrical releases, with many blockbuster films heading straight to the digital platforms. On the other hand, many streaming sites, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+, are becoming the new normal for many film-goers. Because of this, Netflix announced a slate of over 70 new films for 2021, which is more than any other production company. They plan to release at least one every week, up until the new year. Here are some of the best movies you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home in 2021: 1. The Harder They Fall (TBA)
Last month, I was happy to get the chance to chat with directing duo Yonah Lewis and Calvin Thomas. Lewis and Thomas are both Sheridan film graduates who operate out of Toronto. Their latest thriller, White Lie, has been praised nationwide. Their meta comedy Spice It Up, a favourite of mine, is set and filmed at Ryerson too!White Lie is available to stream in Canada on Crave and Hoopla, as well as on-demand. Find out how to watch their other features on the Lisa Pictures website (Lewis and Thomas’ production company). What was an average day like in film school compared
