I wanted to do something different for this week’s article and I decided to share my thoughts on my ALL TIME FAVOURITE movie, Shrek. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve watched this movie along with any other spin-offs related to Shrek. I’ve watched the Shrek films so often that my friends and family associate the movies with me :’D I think it may be a bit of an unhealthy obsession and I wish I could talk about all four of the movies today but we’ll just focus on the 2nd one for now. Where do
With more than half of our faces required to be covered in public spaces, face masks are now a staple element of our outfits that can be creatively styled to perfection! Today I’ve decided to share some of my favourite masks with you, these options are versatile and can appeal to anyone’s fashion sense, this blog will feature less talking and more showing! So let’s get into it 🙂 Funky Patterns: (Image Credit: Joy Khan, SpiritLive, 2021) I didn’t choose the pattern life, the pattern life chose me! I absolutely love these animal print inspired face masks, they are amazing accessories for
Nowadays, starting up a business or campaign can be as easy as creating a business page on Instagram and growing from there. But to create a sustainable business, more people have to be involved and growth is inevitable. Hearing more from both Reena and Aashiq, here’s how they handle networking, finding clients, and dealing with the industry. What is the importance of a good team and strong partnership? “I stress on self awareness, understand everyone is an individual and has personal aspiration and emotion. And what’s important may vary to each person at different places.”Though the co-founders split their roles, where
When I first moved to the city, one of the things I had to learn to adjust to was the sudden influx of people I was exposed to daily, that were dealing with issues of homlessness and drug addiction. Our campus sits in a very central part of Toronto, and we run into people who face these challenges every day, yet it is something we rarely speak about. Most Ryerson students are aware that we have a safe injection site not a block away from our student center, and most of us (in non-covid times of course) pass it on
While it may sound like a paradox to some, I have prepared a list of four outstanding pieces of Canadian media that you should watch as soon as possible. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna talk about Schitt’s Creek (I haven’t even seen it)! I’m sure Schitt’s Creek is great, but my goal is to put you on to some Canadian content you may have never heard of before. I won’t mention films from directors I’ve already spoken to (as much as I want to). Click my profile below to read conversations with Evan Morgan (The Kid Detective) and Yonah Lewis & Calvin
At the 2020 Academy Awards, Parasite (2019) made history as the first foreign film to ever win Best Picture, posing a brighter future for many international movies that fail to receive recognition among the wider American audience. Parasite’s win caused a momentary shift in this pattern, prompting many to explore unfamiliar titles and have a greater appreciation for non-domestic and non-English language cinema. Western production companies caught on to Parasite’s popularity, however, with HBO almost immediately picking it up to remake into a limited series. While many were excited, others criticized it, ultimately posing the question: why remake a masterpiece? Apparently,
Every year I look forward to attending TIFF Next Wave and spending a fun weekend with friends watching films chosen by a committee of twelve high school students. It’s a festival that supports and helps to grow the next generation of film enthusiasts and filmmakers. Their stories are the ones being told on the screen. It gives otherwise marginalized voices in the film industry a chance to share their stories and give them opportunities to explore the industry through their eyes.Nothing exemplifies this more than the movie Beans, directed by Tracey Deer. I heard a lot of buzz around this
Imagine waking up one morning to find your playlists decreased by over 100 songs. Well, that was the case for thousands of International K-Pop fans, including myself. On March 1st, we woke up to the removal of over 100 songs by various Korean artists under the company of Kakao M – a company that runs the biggest streaming platform in Korea called Melon. Fans described this situation as the K-Pop Version of Infinity War and the memes for the pain we are going through are too good to not share. The details are still unknown but essentially Spotify and Kakao
I’m not sure about you, but I find it hard to stay on task when I am in a silent environment. When I study, I like it to be silent, but when I’m doing basic school work, I like to occupy my brain some other way. I like to use this time to listen to new albums or to listen to my go-tos. So without further ado, here are some of my favorite albums to listen to while doing school work (no particular order). If you really want to focus on what you’re doing while simultaneously having some background music
Hemp. An environmental powerhouse and an underrated superfood. Growing up on a hemp farm, I have been immersed in the health food industry from a very young age. I have also been forced to experience and eventually acquire a taste for hemp. Now hemp food products and recipes have come a long way. I was no doubt a guinea pig for endless recipe experiments that more often ended up in the trash. Hemp can have a very strong flavour making it difficult to consume. But hemp has tremendous health benefits and should undeniably be a staple in everyone’s diet. The easiest
In a generation where the ‘grind mentality’ is commonplace, people are scared that they wasted their lives before they’ve even begun. Career changes feel like setbacks, day-to-day obstacles feel like climbing Mt. Everest, and dragging through the days feels hopeless sometimes. I’m guilty of feeling all these things, and I know too many people can feel it too. Which is perfectly valid. For a while now, I’ve been struggling to figure out what I should be doing with myself, what the right move is for my future. Recently, I was lucky enough to have two people come into my life exactly
As I promised, this week’s article will be about STARTING A STICKER STORE!! Woohoooo!! I’ve considered starting my own little shop for a while now so I am really thankful that Brenessa Roach was able to answer a few questions for me 😀 I hope this helps you guys out as well and maybe inspires you to start your own little store 🙂 1. Why did you start your sticker store? I started my sticker store “Shop Brica” back in July 2020 during the pandemic when I found myself to be very inspired and in a creative swing. Before I
Writing a screenplay is not easy, but these famous writers have figured out some cool ways to up their writing game and create amazing work. Here are some of their strangest secrets to success: 1. Greta Gerwig only outlines when she’s stuck Greta says: “I don’t outline. I don’t outline! I definitely don’t outline before I start writing. There is a moment when I do outline, but it’s only after I have a great deal of material. I find if I outline before I write, it’s the fastest way to kill all my ideas. Somehow it makes everything quite literal
Hey Naturalistas! When I think of the concept of “natural” or “organic”, I initially consider it in connection to food, but to confirm my thought, I decided to ask my Instagram followers: Turns out, the majority of them also attribute the terms with food! But lately I’ve been challenging myself to consider other ways in which my body absorbs. Health and Beauty products are a key method of consumption, they are typically applied directly to our skin and absorbed. With this in mind, I’ve made an effort to adjust my Health and Beauty products to include natural or organic versions of the
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of virtually attending the TIFF Next Wave film festival. Along with my peers under the age of 25, I got to see a bunch of movies and attend workshops for free. Ryerson was well represented at the festival, including a short film by RTA’s very own Natalie Paton. Now in second year, Paton’s Kaudo (The Gift) was filled with RTA-student names in the credits. I was lucky to have a chat with Natalie, available later in this article! Animated shorts Prey and Coping were very well done. Despite my RTA bias, Natalie’s Kaudo was definitely
