4 Moments When Movies Turn into ASMR
Posted on November 25, 2021
With the cold weather approaching rapidly here in the city, it can sometimes feel impossible to find weather friendly, cheap and fun things to do. Here are five fun and inexpensive things to do in the city this winter which can hopefully relieve some stress from exam season:
Art Gallery Of Ontario
The Art Gallery, also known as the AGO is a relaxing place to spend a cold winter day. Located just down the street from the university, at 317 Dundas Street West, it’s a short walk or streetcar ride away. The AGO holds so much beautiful art like the Picasso and Andy Warhol exhibits, plus the regular art spread all throughout the building. Admission is free from 6-9pm on Wednesdays, and anyone under 25 who signs up for a membership gets free unlimited visits! A great day spent just walking around and looking at art, or taking pictures, the Art Gallery is definitely a great place to unwind and take a screen break.
St. Lawrence Market
The St. Lawrence Market is a staple in Downtown Toronto. Located in the St Lawrence Neighbourhood at Front and Jarvis Street, only about a twenty-minute walk from campus, you can find this building filled with hundreds of vendors and shops. During the week, there are pastas, sandwiches, meats and so many desserts to try. When summer rolls around, so does an outdoor farmers market with so much amazing fresh produce to choose from. On a cold Toronto day, this is a great place to stroll around looking at all the unique choices with free entry. Outdoor seating, hundreds of food choices, souvenirs and a great atmosphere are all happening at the St Lawrence Market.
Hockey Hall of Fame

With Toronto being a huge hockey city, it’s no surprise that the Hockey Hall of Fame is here in the heart of Downtown. General admission is $25 and you are able to look at the history of hockey in one building! Historic artifacts like the first square hockey puck, the first hockey stick, the oldest hockey jersey, and Canada’s first gold medal are just some of the special pieces in the HHOF. The “presentation” Stanley Cup is even at the end of the walk through free to examine and take pictures with. 30 Yonge Street, a fifteen-minute walk from the university, is where you will find the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Distillery District Christmas Market
Happening November 18th until December 31st, this Christmas market now called the “Distillery Winter Village,” is a must visit in the winter. Although not technically indoors, this is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit in the city. The cute shops and unique food places make this an overall fun and festive experience. If the cold weather is too much, there are indoor places to sit and warm up all around the market. Live entertainment, a 50 ft tall tree, and impressive decorations are all a part of attending this festival. So head over to 55 Mill St, Toronto if you are craving some holiday spirit this year.
Snakes and Latte

If you’re in the mood for coffee and board games, this is the place for you! A café filled with delicious food or drink options, and hundreds of board games to choose from. There is one fee of $8 for unlimited choice of board games, and the stay can be as long as you please. This popular joint does get quite busy, so it’s smart to book a table beforehand. There are 2 locations: one in the Annex and one on College St- both easy transit rides away from campus! Whether you’re a board game lover, just want to warm up with a hot drink or have a great time with friends, you’ll be anything but bored!
