For starters, do not let this title mislead you. Although these recipes are catered towards making snacks in an air fryer, these are definitely doable in a toaster oven or regular oven. I have made these snacks to munch on both during and in between classes. They are so easy to make, they only take a few minutes, and they never disappoint.
Before getting into things, I would like to mention that all air fryers (just like ovens) work slightly differently in terms of heat and time so the cooking times might need to be moderated based on your appliance.
First up, we have banana crisps. If you’re a fan of a cross between sweet and savoury tastes in your food, this snack will be right up your ally. It is super simple to make and only takes about 15 minutes. These are the ingredients you’ll need:
- 1-2 bananas (depending on the quantity you plan on eating)
- 1 lemon OR lemon juice.
- Water.
- Salt.
- Olive oil spray.
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, start by cutting your banana(s) into thin slices — but not too thin! Then place the slices into a bowl of lemon/lemon juice and water in order to dehydrate them. Keep them in the liquid for about 10 minutes. While you wait for the banana slices to dehydrate, preheat the airfryer to 360ºF.
Once the slices have been removed from the liquid, salt them however much you’d like, lightly cover the air fryer tray with olive oil spray, evenly place the banana slices on the tray, and lightly cover them with olive oil spray as well. Cook them for 12 minutes in total, flipping them half way through. It’s that easy! This is definitely a recipe that I will be following for a while.
Next, we have sweet potato fries. All you’ll need to make these are sweet potatoes (number depends on how much you’re planning on making) and your seasoning of choice. All you’ll need to do is cut the potatoes into the shape of fries (or however you’d like), coat them in a small amount of oil and add your seasoning. Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF and cook the potatoes for 10 minutes. Half way through, flip them over. This recipe does not take long at all!
A tip I would offer is to cut the sweet potatoes the day before you plan on making them so that all you need to do is season and cook them when the time comes. However, either way works efficiently!
Although quite a similar process, this next recipe has quite a different taste — zucchini fries. What you’ll need for this recipe is:
- 1 zucchini (or more, depending on how many zucchini fries you feel like having).
- Olive oil spray.
- Seasoning of your choice.
- Breadcrumbs.
Start off by cutting the zucchini(s) in half (longways), then cutting the pieces in half one more time, then cutting them in half horizontally. Once you’ve got your slices, lightly coat them in olive oil, then add seasoning. Mix well so that all pieces are evenly coated. Then, lightly cover in olive oil once more, and coat with breadcrumbs. Preheat the airfryer to 350ºF and cook for 8 minutes. Halfway through, flip the fries over. That’s it!
Last, but certainly not least — cheese filled bell peppers. This one is my absolute favourite! The only ingredients you’ll need are baby bell peppers, whipped cream cheese, seasoning of your choice, and shredded cheese. Start off by cutting the stems off of the bell peppers, cutting them in half (longways), and scraping out any excess veins and seeds making each piece a scoop-like shape. Once you have all of your baby bell peppers cut, mix together the appropriate amount of cream cheese, shredded cheese, and seasoning. Lastly, incorporate the cheese mixture into each bell pepper “boat” and place them inside of your air fryer. Set the temperature to 350ºF and cook for about 6 minutes or until the cheese has browned a bit. Let it cool down for a few minutes once it’s finished, and enjoy!
These are all fairly healthy snacks to make while looking to satisfy any cravings or just to munch on something. I hope anyone who follows these recipes enjoys them as much as I do!
