5 Feel-Good Movies To Escape Into During Quarantine

The time we live in is a wild and confusing one. There is so much worry in the world, and rightfully so. It’s not easy for us to be thrown into an entirely new schedule and trapped in the same place for days at a time when trying to combat the pandemic around us. So in an effort to find something normal in all of this chaos, I’ve compiled a list of movies that I always have on hand to escape into, and I hope it does the same for all of you. Here we go!

The Princess Bride (1987)

We’re kicking it off with this childhood favourite. What can go wrong with this movie? Nothing. Because it’s a perfect movie. Westley and Buttercup’s whirlwind adventure is funny and witty and charming, as well as romantic and full of heart. There’s so much that this movie gives for so many different people, and all of it is executed perfectly. One of the best feel-good movies out there.

My Neighbor Totoro (1988)

Staying in the realm of childhood, we have the beautiful and whimsical My Neighbor Totoro. The film follows two sisters, Mei and Satsuki, as they move into a new house and face the adventures and challenges that come into their new life. It may or may not include some cute, helpful, and furry forest spirits. And it’s written and directed by Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki. With it’s beautiful animation and heartfelt story, it definitely belongs in the feel-good movie club.

Die Hard (1988)

Pivoting in a completely different direction, we’re going with this action classic, Die Hard. What’s not to like? We have Bruce Willis as cool Detective John McClane as he tries to take down a robbery masterminded by a German terrorist group. We have Alan Rickman playing one of the slickest villains out there. We have some seriously tense and creative action sequences. It’s really easy to get sucked into this movie and by the end, we’re just content to sit back, happy that things worked out.

Singin’ In the Rain (1952)

This is for you musical nerds out there. Legitimately a Hollywood classic, Singin’ In the Rain takes us all the way back to the 30s with the emergence of sound in film. And with that comes some fantastic songs and insanely huge (and I mean HUGE) musical numbers in this film. With a charming story and iconic music, we get to follow Gene Kelly in his prime, dancing his way into our hearts.

Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse (2018)

This movie speaks for itself. Everything about it is perfect, whether we’re talking animation, story, characters, music, you name it. Miles Morales’ coming of age story into the famous Spider-Man is heartfelt, funny, and relatable, sucking you into its glitchy, colourful world. There isn’t a thing I don’t love about it (including the memes).

And those are my picks for five feel-good movies you can watch during quarantine. Of course, there’s so much more to watch beyond these, but these are just a few to tide you over the weirdest and wackiest of times, and escape into some movie worlds that give you the warm fuzzies. Stay safe out there!
