Restaurants to Try While Self-Isolating

If you’re a foodie like me, takeout and delivery are your best friends right now. With so many options to choose from and platforms to order on it’s hard to decide what to try. Here I have some restaurants I’ve already ordered from, plus a list of others I’ve been meaning to try. Be sure to follow my food instagram @PaoTheBao to see my food adventures and tag me in yours!

Lai Wah Heen

One of my favourite dim sum spots, Lai Wah Heen’s quality and flavour doesn’t suffer through delivery. It’s a family tradition to go to dim sum together every Saturday and thanks to delivery, this tradition can live on. We ordered: egg fried rice, cha siu bao (steamed pork buns), Singapore noodles, stir-fried pea shoots with garlic, har gow (shrimp filled dumplings), shumai (pork and shrimp dumplings, topped with scallop), and chicken truffle dumplings.

The Fourth Man in the Fire

I’ve been wanting to try The Fourth Man in the Fire pizza for a while and now that my family is home too, ordering in their massive 18” pizzas seems appropriate. We got the pepperoni mushroom and regular cheese pizza. I would have loved to try a calzone, the pictures on instagram look delicious, but then it would have been too much food, maybe next time.

Adamson Barbecue

Another spot I’d been meaning to try, but Adamson Barbecue is pretty far from my house. On top of that normally, you’d have to line up early in the morning in the hopes of securing an order for lunch. Luckily, this family run business is offering free delivery across Toronto! If you’ve been looking for a great place to order barbecue from, this is it. Make sure you’re reading the order instructions carefully on their website, as there’s different menus for pick-up versus delivery. Plus, they only offer delivery from Friday through Saturday. We ordered the “Texas Trinity” which consisted of pork ribs, beef brisket, and two different types of sausages.

Here’s a short list of other restaurants I’d love to order from:

Craig’s Cookies

I hear these are some of the best cookies in Toronto and by the looks of it, these reviews aren’t lying. If I’m craving something sweet, Craig’s Cookies would top my list to order from next. Plus, they have mini egg cookies for Easter right now, a must try.

Harry’s Charbroiled

This beloved Parkdale burger joint permanently shut its doors last year, only to make a comeback now! I got to try one of their bugers a week before they closed and man, could I go for their red chorizo burger with pineapple right now. Definitely will be ordering burgers from this place next.

Loga’s Corner

I’ve always wanted to try Tibetan momos from Loga’s Corner. Essentially a dumpling, these are the highlight of the menu here and are really well known. Everything is made fresh and from scratch in this small family owned restaurant that probably needs your support most.

They only offer pick-up, through calling the restaurant.

Bang Bang Ice Cream

With a massive variety of flavours, it’s hard to choose what not to get. Bang Bang ice cream has long lineups in the summer (yes, I’m guilty of waiting in them), but now you can skip the line and order online. I always get their totaro flavour, which is ube and for my second flavour mix it up with a different one every time. The owners of this shop also own Bakerbots Baking, where my best friend always orders ice cream from for her birthday, which is coming up soon. Naturally, you know I’ll be ordering cookies and cream ice cream from Bang Bang ice cream to keep up her birthday tradition.

El Habanero Churro Bar

Another place that is far from home, but that I’ve always wanted to try. The churros look so good! I recently discovered that they also offer churro cakes too, so I definitely would love to order a dulce de leche churro cake for my sister’s birthday coming up soon!
