Where to eat Matcha Tiramisu

Little Pebbles & Cheese Garden

Being a matcha big big lover myself, I love trying out all the different matcha desserts out there. So…my friend and I decided to hunt down the two places, one in Toronto and one in North York to try out their signature matcha tiramisus!

Little Pebbles

  • Matcha Tiramisu $6.00              | Rating  ★★★★☆
  • Hot Black Sesame Latte $4.80      | Rating  ★★★★★

Little Pebbles is a little cute modern Japanese café located right in the heart of Kensington Market! It is especially famous for their freshly baked Japanese desserts and roasted coffee. I honestly LOVED their matcha tiramisu! The tiramisu was served inside a small wooden box like the size on our palm. Scooping into the box, there were layers of fine matcha powder with cloud-like cream filling along red bean paste in the centre, and a final layer on lady finger at the bottom. The cream literally melts into your mouth blending into bitter sweet from Japanese matcha. The matcha powder that Little Pebbles used was leaning towards the natural bitter side compare to Tsujiri and Pablo, but I think that’s what makes their signature matcha tiramisu flavour especially unique! If you love eating a more bitter matcha, you will for sure love this one.  The portion is definitely a bit small to share between 2 people, because it wasn’t long until we devoured the whole thing one bite after another.

Aside from the matcha tiramisu, I recommend trying out their Black Sesame Latte! It was the perfect drink that I enjoyed while eating the tiramisu. The natural, creamy and rich Japanese black sesame flavour is definitely a drink that warms you up in the winter.

Cheese Garden

  • Uji Matcha Tiramisu $11.95     | Rating  ★★★★★

Jumping from Toronto to North York, my friend and I went to this Cheese Garden location in North York to check out their Instagram worthy desserts! Compare to Little Pebbles which only has 1 store, Cheese Garden actually has a total of 3 locations across Ontario. True to the name of this Japanese café bakery, their daily baked cheesy desserts are just simply 10 out of 10 delicious.

Cheese Garden’s matcha tiramisu is double the price compare to Little Pebbles, but don’t worry, because their tiramisu is also double in size. Their Uji Matcha Tiramisu came in a pretty deep wooden cylinder similar height to the size of my hand. It was neatly layered with a thick bed of lady finger, the super “creamy-creamcheese-cream” and the top layer of uji matcha powder. The matcha had a rich and strong flavour that complimented the fluffy cream. I especially loved their double layers of soft cream cheese cream and matcha cream which both had neat consistencies that assembled the whole tiramisu flavour together. It was so amazing that I wanted to buy another tiramisu for takeout too. For the sweet matcha lovers out there, I think that Cheese Garden’s matcha is definitely a little bit more sweeter when comparing to Little Pebbles.

One of the things that I loved about Cheese Garden was that they had small portions of free samples of their Japanese cheesecake by the check-out counter. So I also got to try out their delicious cheesecake without having to purchase the entire one! (it was honestly as good as the Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake J) Surprisingly, it was funny to find that both of these matcha tiramisus are served inside wooden containers. Now that I checked-off the 2 different matcha tiramisus cafes on my to-eat bucket list, stay tune for my next stops to… the special Toronto Ice Cream stores!
